About The Position

Provides general professional nursing care, medication management, client support, and logistically assists clinical professionals in a mobile clinic setting. Primarily works as part of a mobile treatment team for those with opioid use disorders who are receiving medication-assisted recovery. Work is performed under general supervision and is guided by agency policies and procedures, quality assurance, public and private payor guidelines, professional practices, ethical standards related to client interactions, Board of Pharmacy and Board of Nursing regulations, and state and federal licensure and accreditation regulations and guidelines.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards, practices, and techniques related to psychiatric and general nursing, including addiction medicine.
• Considerable knowledge of pharmacology and the administration of psychotropic medication, specifically medication for opioid use disorders.
• Considerable knowledge of Board of Pharmacy and Board of Nursing regulations relating to prescription drug storage, administration, and documentation.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques related to individual and group therapy practices for those with behavioral health disorders.
• Considerable knowledge of substance use disorders, communicable and other infectious diseases, and the psychological/physical effects of detoxification and withdrawal.
• Considerable knowledge of community treatment providers and other agencies.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with the individual population.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency clinicians and staff of other private and public organizations.
• Ability to function calmly in stressful situations.
• Ability to conduct effective interviews, observe, assess, and record individual behaviors and function.
• State Certified Registered Nurse preferred.
• State Certified Licensed Practical Nurse will be considered with at least three years of experience working with individuals on medication for opioid use disorders.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Must possess all qualifications and skills required by federal and state regulations to bill Medicaid for the services provided.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• At least three years of nursing experience with a minimum of one year of experience working with individuals on medication for opioid use disorders.
• Applicants without a Bachelor's Degree may be considered with at least three years of experience working with individuals on medication for opioid use disorders.

Responsibilities

• Provides general nursing care.
• Conducts individual intake, follow-up interviews, and performs physical, psychological, and general casework assessments.
• Coordinates and monitors services and placements, including intensive care, with other agencies, providers, and the consumer's family.
• Schedules and monitors psychiatric services as necessary with a consulting psychiatric provider.
• Provides routine examinations such as measuring blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, BMI, and blood glucose readings.
• Monitors withdrawal symptoms using standardized instruments, including but not limited to, the Clinical Opioid Withdrawal Scale and the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol.
• Dispenses medications, monitors medication, and administers injections.
• Conducts urine/saliva drug screenings and records results.
• Records data, prepares, and maintains detailed case records and other records.
• Conducts SBIRT and standardized substance use screenings as appropriate.
• Provides counseling and educational information regarding medication use, diet, health maintenance, etc., to individuals, their families, and caregivers.
• Orders, inventories, and secures pharmaceuticals for program individuals.
• Prepares medical correspondence and reports and maintains up-to-date medical history information in the patient's chart.
• Maintains adequate first aid supplies and materials.
• Responds to medical emergencies and other potential crisis situations.
• Attends required team meetings, staff meetings, conferences, and in-service training.
• Does related work as assigned.
