About The Position

Under the general direction of the Medical Director, provides direct clinical care to patients at the health center. The Certified Nurse Midwife is a member of the health center’s clinical team with the purpose of providing evidenced-based and quality medical care to Health Center patients.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to relate well to a diverse group of patients and staff.
  • Able and willing to work on as needed basis in order to meet operational needs of the clinic.
  • Proficient with computers, and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Possession of a current nursing license in New Jersey.
  • Certification as a nurse midwife in the state of New Jersey.
  • Possession of a valid DEA and CDS registration.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Training and certification as a Nurse Midwife

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of federal programs and community health centers a plus.
  • Knowledge of Spanish a plus
  • Minimum 1-year clinical practice in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Learn and apply the trauma informed care principles with the scope of the position

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessments of patients including history taking and physical examination prior to prescribing based upon the individual needs of patients in accordance with rights and privileges granted through RN licensure and CNM certification.
  • Provides women’s health and prenatal care, including but not limited to diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, treatment of conditions and illnesses within the scope of practice, referral and follow-up of patients, and other duties as assigned.
  • Works closely with collaborating physician and follows the guidelines detailed in the joint protocol for Advance Practice Nurses and collaborating physicians.
  • Leads assigned clinical support staff within the patient care team to provide accessible and quality preventive, acute and chronic care and address the needs of the patients and family.
  • Participates in night and weekend call coverage in rotation with other providers as assigned.
  • Assists patients in accessing community resources, referrals and other services as clinically indicated by the center’s diverse populations. Assists the Medical Director in accessing services for the center and its patients with the local provider community, including physicians, hospitals and laboratories.
  • Participates in clinical performance improvement activities. Attends regular meetings of the medical staff and other meetings as deemed necessary by the Medical Director.
  • Participates in clinic operations by ensuring compliance according to local, state and federal rules and regulations, and ensures that licensing, credentialing and educational activities are kept current and up to date. Contributes to and follows established policies and protocols for clinical care.
  • Participates in community health initiatives including health fairs and other educational activities as directed. Is a member of professional and organizational associations.
  • Participates in in-service educational programs and continuing education. Teaches and trains other health center staff and students as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Medical Director.
