About The Position

Thurston County Public Health & Social Services (PHSS) is recruiting for a Nurse Manager for our Disease Control & Prevention (DCP) Division. In this vital leadership role, you will oversee a division of approximately 10 staff and ensure the success of multiple programs through strategic planning, effective staff management, and strong fiscal oversight. You will manage complex budgets with diverse funding streams, navigate contracts and grants, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements, while leading a team dedicated to investigating and managing cases of communicable diseases and sexually transmitted infections. You’ll also shape the future of the program by setting impactful goals, providing technical expertise and training, and building strong community partnerships. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related advanced nursing education.
  • Must be currently licensed as a Washington State Registered Nurse.
  • Five years of experience in professional environmental work including experience in budget preparation and program planning and implementation.
  • A minimum of two years supervisory experience of nursing staff is also required.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and software packages to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical guidance to nurse and disease investigator team on a variety of diseases such as tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate public health nursing programs and services based on community needs, agency goals, and evidence-based practices
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, public health regulations, and professional nursing standards
  • Develop, revise, and implement policies and procedures related to nursing practice
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, client outcomes, and service delivery quality
  • Collect and analyze data to support program improvement and public health initiatives
  • Stay current with public health nursing practices, laws, and trends
  • Support and empower public health nurses to practice to the full extent of their education, training, and licensure in accordance with state Nurse Practice Acts
  • Identify and remove barriers to independent nursing judgment and evidence-based decision-making
  • Advocate for systems, policies, and workflows that enable optimal use of nursing skills in public health service delivery
  • Assist with communicable disease case investigations that need a higher level of nursing support
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, other local governmental agencies, academic institutions, industrial organizations, professional societies, and other groups for planning and development of services
  • Monitor expenditures and program performance against the approved budget and general cost-effectiveness standards
  • Responsible for grant and contract management to include identifying and preparing grant applications for Board of Health approval, ensuring requirements are met, deliverables and outcomes are analyzed and achieved, and accurate files and reports are maintained and submitted
  • Manage a team of employees; recommend selection of staff, provide and coordinate training opportunities, set expectations and goals, evaluate performance, and recommend disciplinary action when needed
  • Provide on-call after hours/weekend/holiday phone support
  • Perform other work as required or assigned, including, but not limited to, a 24/7 response during public health emergency situations and disease outbreak investigations
