About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183-bed acute care and residential facility with over 30 years of experience in providing behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents. The facility offers acute programs, adolescent residential programs, and programs for active duty military. Located in Petersburg, Virginia, it provides a serene, nature-like setting on 25 acres, aiming to offer hope and a nurturing environment for patients to flourish. The new opening is for a Nursing Manager, a registered nurse who shares delegated responsibility with the Director of Nursing in managing programmatic issues, unit staff, patient care, and daily FTEs. The Nurse Manager is responsible for hiring and supervising unit nursing staff and assisting the Director of Nursing with compliance to hospital policies and procedures. Hours will vary, requiring flexibility in availability.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Minimum of (2) years’ experience as an RN required
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a psychiatric hospital setting or related professional setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA State and Federal regulations
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning

Responsibilities

  • Hires and supervises unit nursing staff as assigned.
  • Assists Director of Nursing with compliance to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Shares delegated responsibility with the Director of Nursing in all matters related to programmatic issues, unit staff, patient management and care, and daily FTEs.
