About The Position

Atrium Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead two freestanding emergency department sites located just six miles apart in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong clinical leader to oversee daily operations, foster collaboration across teams, and support consistent, high-quality emergency care across both locations. In this role, you will lead a highly experienced RN team known for delivering exceptional patient care. The team has achieved the highest emergency department patient satisfaction scores in the Greater Charlotte market for five consecutive years. They thrive with recognition, guidance, direct communication, and leader-supported self-governance rather than micromanagement. Site Overview Ballantyne ED 10 beds, including triage and a trauma/resuscitation room Supported by 12 RNs and one Clinical Supervisor Providence ED 12 beds, including triage and a trauma/resuscitation room, plus a 3-bed vertical care area Supported by 15 RNs, one Paramedic, and one Clinical Supervisor Combined Volume: Approximately 25,000 annual visits across both locations As freestanding sites operating under Atrium Health Pineville Hospital, these locations offer an autonomous leadership environment. The Nurse Manager serves as the primary on-site leader and decision-maker, with full ownership of day-to-day operations, clinical quality, staffing, and team engagement. This role is an excellent fit for a resourceful, confident leader who brings sound independent judgment and strong operational leadership. The Nurse Manager will oversee multidisciplinary teams across both sites and partner closely with Clinical Supervisors in Radiology, Respiratory, Lab, Security, and Patient Access, as well as frontline staff. This leader will help drive outcomes, promote best practices, and sustain a high-performing team culture. Familiarity with the physical facilities and strong working relationships with Facilities Maintenance and IAS are also important to success in this role.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Current RN licensure in appropriate state.
  • Must have or complete MSN if undergraduate degree is not BSN.
  • Enrollment in MSN program within 1 year of hire/transfer date and graduation of MSN program required within 5 years of hire.
  • If undergraduate degree is BSN, a master's degree from a health-related program or MBA is acceptable.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.
  • Appropriate professional certification (either clinical or leadership) is required within 1 year of eligibility for professional certification exam.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader.

  • Continually demonstrates and supports a Professional Practice model that allows nurses to work in collaboration with interdisciplinary partners to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Ensures that unit operations and employees are in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory agency standards, and policies and procedures.
  • Functions as a team member to accomplish goals and objectives of the unit and the organization, upholding quality management, patient care, and departmental standards.
  • Assumes responsibility in the recruitment and retention of qualified staff and to ensure appropriate orientation, education, credentialing and continuing professional development of personnel through mutual goal setting and performance evaluation.
  • Delegates effectively by promoting shared governance, developing and nurturing research to positively affect clinical outcomes.
  • Performs nursing care, assists with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administers medications as necessary.
  • Provides and assesses effectiveness of patient and family education.
  • Participates with performance improvement activities to improve quality of nursing care, promote patient outcomes and provide a cost-effective environment for patient care.
  • Assists in development of policies, procedures and standards reflective of evidence-based practice.
  • Promotes shared accountability for professional practice.
  • Allocates resources to meet the unit needs.
  • Responsible for budgetary oversight, and along with staff involvement, accountable to the organization for maintaining a cost-effective unit.
