About The Position

Shriners Children’s is seeking an Operating Room Nurse Manager to oversee patient care, nursing staff, and ancillary staff within Surgical Services, including AM/SDS, Pre and Post Anesthetic care, the Operation Room, and Central Sterile departments. This role involves supervising RNs, OR Techs, NAs, and ancillary staff, directing the evaluation of patient care safety and quality, and developing annual operating and capital equipment budgets. The Nurse Manager will collaborate with administrative, medical, and interdisciplinary staff to improve programs, systems, and staff development, and will provide direct patient care as needed. Requirements

  • BSN
  • RN license in state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years Management/Supervisory experience in healthcare setting
  • 2 years pediatric experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice within the Operating Room.
  • Supervises activities of surgical services personnel in providing care to patients and family members.
  • Assists in the developing, implementing and tracking unit based key performance indicators supporting Performance Improvement programs and other measurements.
  • Directs employee selection, hiring, orientation, training and ongoing staff development for the Operating Room.
  • Communicates and maintains liaison with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nursing staff and ancillary personnel in various hospital departments.
  • Demonstrates correct use and operation of required equipment according to written competency checklist procedure on file.
  • Demonstration of professional practice and career development. Maintains clinical competency by successfully completing yearly skills updates, attends in-services and reviews current professional literature and distributes appropriate findings. Maintains memberships in appropriate medical/professional organizations. Formulates and meets annual performance goals.
  • Supervises various personnel actions including, but not limited to, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Maintains ongoing feedback with employees supervised.
