About The Position

Performs the primary functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing, planning, implementing, directing, teaching and evaluating the care of all patients in the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Recovery Room, Ambulatory Unit, Preadmission Testing/Teaching Unit, Central Processing on a 24-hour basis. Is responsible for meeting the Joint Commission Standards of patient care as well as the established Surgical Standards of Nursing Practice. Is responsible for managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment in the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Recovery Room, Ambulatory Unit, Preadmission Testing/Teaching Unit, and Central Processing Promotes teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments. Optimal patient care is assured through collaboration, communications, coordination, and effective training of personnel, their performance evaluation and the application of nursing care standards. Assists Perioperative personnel in patient care, when needed. He/she receives guidance, support, and direction from the VP of Nursing, Chief of Surgery, and the Director of Patient Services. Responsible to plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate all phases of Surgical Services. Accountable and responsible for the continuum of surgical services operations including human resources, fiscal resources, facilities and material. Optimal patient care is assured through collaboration, communication, coordination, and effective interdepartmental relationships. Accountable and responsible for ensuring clear, concise, and current written policies and procedures. Responsible in staffing requirements, selecting personnel, and planning for appropriate utilization of human resources daily/emergency basis. Provides job specific orientation for each skill set utilized in its continuum of surgery department operations. Promote and encourage development new knowledge with application of research finding to perioperative nursing practice, education and administration. Assures the appropriate documentation of activities by the operating room team. Direct an effective PI/Risk Management program for Perioperative nursing. Counsels and conducts evaluations of staff. Ensure sufficient quantity of supplies/instruments are available to adequately care for patients intraoperative needs. Knowledgeable of and actively supports/enforces philosophy, objectives, and policies of the hospital and Surgical Services. Serve on hospital committee as requested. Plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates the perioperative nursing practice during all the Perioperative phases of the patient surgical experience. Communicates and collaborates the surgical services with clinical professionals and other departments to obtain optimal patient care. Coordinates the purchasing/availability of supplies, instruments and equipment to procedure, cash control, inventory, maintenance, safety in usage, storage, and charges. Establishes staffing requirements, provides orientation programs for all personnel and participates in inservice educational programs pertinent to the Surgical Services Participates in implementing planned changes and activities to improve the department in collaboration with other health professionals by attending committee meetings (e.g., surgery, anesthesia, PI, administrative, OR nursing staff). Prepare monthly budget reports, capital expenditures, cost effectiveness of the unit, surgical census and other monitoring data required for the O.R. unit. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with current valid Ohio license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience and expertise in Perioperative nursing.
  • Must be willing to work according to hospital needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health services administration.
  • Certified Nurse of the Operating Room (CNOR).
