The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Director provides patient care and education in accordance with the plan of care developed by the interdisciplinary team to include patient, provider and nurses. The LPN supervises nursing functions delegated to nursing support personnel. The LPN is accountable to the patient and family for the care he/she provides or delegates, to staff as well as to the DON providing supervision for that care. He/she participates in activities to maintain or enhance own practice as well as activities to achieve the unit goals. The Licensed Practical Nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adult medicine, and OB/GYN.) Must have the ability to triage patients independently based on approved triage protocols by Park west Health System.
