Requirements

  • Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university.
  • Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course.
  • Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
  • None

Responsibilities

  • Performs general patient care such as hygiene, mobility, and nutrition under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
  • Performs routine treatments and interventions consistent with educational level and demonstrated competency.
  • Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding.
  • Performs increased or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and the healthcare team.
  • Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist during handoffs for specific patient populations.
  • Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions, Hand Hygiene, and PPE procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate patient information to the registered nurse and healthcare team.
  • Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Documents patient information according to Orlando Health policies.
  • Transports and assists patients through admission and discharge processes, including transporting specific patient populations to diagnostic testing.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides exceptional service and care to patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding specific types) throughout the facility.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with policies.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Completes all mandatory training.
  • Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills for patient care appropriate to the population served.
  • Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient status.
  • Interprets information to identify patient's age-specific needs.
  • Provides care as described in Orlando Health’s policies and procedures.
  • Consistently uses time and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
