Labor and Delivery nurses provide specialized care to women during labor, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. They play a critical role in monitoring maternal and fetal health, assisting with deliveries, and offering emotional and educational support to families during one of life’s most significant events. This role performs routine patient care assignments and may require intermediate support. It applies theoretical knowledge to clinical practice in structured, low-risk environments, demonstrating understanding of basic nursing principles and unit protocols. The nurse begins applying foundational knowledge in real-time care, uses standard procedures and tools to assess and respond to patient conditions, and escalates concerns to senior staff and the medical team. Works under varied levels of supervision depending on skillset and follows care plans and protocols with limited decision-making. Communicates respectfully with patients and team members, and seeks clarification and feedback to support learning.
