About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of an RN, the Nurse Extern provides basic and intermediate nursing care to an assigned group of patients, based on demonstrated competence. The position serves patients in the Emergency Unit, which provides care to patients of all ages, including pediatric and high-risk adult patients. The extern completes established position competencies within the designated introductory period and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing.
• Must have completed one semester of clinicals in an RN program.
• Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support (BLS) on hire from ARC or AHA; AHA Healthcare Provider BLS must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• For work in the ED or Behavioral Health areas, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) must be obtained within 60 days of hire or transfer. NVCI training must be completed before working as a constant observer.
