About The Position

The Nurse Extern is currently enrolled in a School of Nursing and has successfully completed a Nursing fundamentals course. When on duty, s/he assists patients with activities of daily living and provides basic patient care designed to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of the patient. The Nurse Extern may also be cross-trained to perform unit secretary clerical duties. The nurse Extern may perform nursing practice interventions learned within his/her clinical training and successfully validated by a RN staff member.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program.
• Successfully entered their senior year in an accredited school of nursing.
• Must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
• AHA BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Provide basic patient care designed to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of the patient.
• May be cross-trained to perform unit secretary clerical duties.
• May perform nursing practice interventions learned within his/her clinical training and successfully validated by a RN staff member.
• Participate in inpatient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation.
• Report significant observations to a Registered Nurse.
