About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

The role includes assisting patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene; performing basic nursing tasks as skills and competency develop; documenting care and communicating with the nursing team; helping patients and families understand care plans; maintaining clean, safe patient areas; and taking part in learning and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing (ADN or BSN) program.

• Preferred candidate has completed foundation, fundamental, or Med Surg I clinical.

Responsibilities

• Help patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and ensure comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Keep patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
