This position directs patient care by planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing work required to provide safe, quality, comprehensive, and evidence-based nursing care. The Nurse Executive assigns and directs tasks to staff efficiently and appropriately, provides training, and identifies opportunities for improvement. They review and revise policies and procedures, participate in ongoing education, and coordinate interdisciplinary patient care from admission to discharge. The role also involves managing supplies and equipment, maintaining skill sets and licensure, planning work schedules, assessing and directing assignments to improve workflow, and conducting staff preparedness and contingency planning. Additionally, this role coordinates orientation and training, designs and evaluates orientation and competency assessments, ensures compliance with mandatory in-services, and provides opportunities for staff development. The Nurse Executive coordinates infection control and safety activities, assists with action plans for safety concerns, participates in hospital committees, and disseminates information. They ensure compliance with quality programs and regulatory requirements, establish and revise policies, and participate in the development of standards of care. The role facilitates the coordinated utilization of resources, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and supports the implementation of clinical guidelines. Management of the annual budget, planning work schedules, coordinating credentialing, and ensuring timely performance evaluations are also key responsibilities. The Nurse Executive must also complete all yearly CMS required training and support compliance with CMS standards.
