About The Position

This role serves as an educator of clinical practice, and a supporter of staff professional development and personal growth. The Nurse Educator participates in delegations of patient care assignments reflecting the learning needs of the staff and staff competency to meet patient needs. They also participate and make recommendations in the selection of new hires and transfers based on qualifications and abilities necessary to meet patient needs. The role involves collecting and assessing monthly quality data to evaluate, discuss and recommend Performance Improvement initiatives in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and Director. The Nurse Educator also assists with Annual Competencies of all Surgical Services and Procedural Areas and serves as a resource to all staff and management in planning and providing educational programs. This role serves as Administrator for AORN Periop 101: Core Curriculum Program and assists in the growth of staff in developing them as preceptors and mentors. The Nurse Educator plans, presents, and evaluates orientation, in-service, and continuing education programs. They act as a liaison with the Staff Education Department assisting with the development, recommendation, and implementation of policies, procedures, and new initiatives/roll-outs. The role assists and collaborates with the Director regarding staff performance by making competency determinations and giving recommendations/input for yearly staff evaluations. The Nurse Educator works collaboratively with care team members to maintain unit efficiency and patient care excellence. Work practice reflects the philosophy, purpose, and policies of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Mount Auburn Hospital and models the Hospital’s Core Values. The Nurse Educator collaborates with the Surgical Services Leadership Group to develop and implement a strategic educational plan based on learning needs assessment and to assist with onboarding of new physicians.

Requirements

  • Experience in a clinical specialty area
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking skills including advanced leadership skills during emergency or crises
  • Served as successful preceptor and mentor
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the education needs of the surgical and procedural services departments
  • Excellent computer skills (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent customer service skills
