About The Position

Under the direction of the Patient Care Unit Director, the Nurse Educator serves as the clinical expert for the patient populations served on that unit or department, and as an organizational resource in that specialty. He/she is responsible for development, competence assessment, teaching, and evaluation of unit based orientation, inservices and continuing education programs for clinical staff. The Nurse Educator is responsible for professional nursing practice and delivering quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association.
  • Licensed to practice in nursing in the state of New Hampshire
  • Minimum of 3 years of acute care clinical experience in unit/department specialty area(s).
  • Regularly lift, carry or push/pull up to 10 pounds, frequently lift, carry or push/pull up to 10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally lift, carry or push/pull up to 20 - 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to hear, sit, speak, stand, walk.
  • Frequently required to do fine motor, reach, and smell.
  • Occasionally required to bend, climb, kneel, squat, and taste.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Frequently exposed to airborne contaminants, airborne pathogens, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to chemotherapeutic agents, electrical hazards - shock, moving mechanical parts, non-weather related heat or cold, radiation, slippery surfaces.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in nursing preferred or commensurate education and experience
  • Previous teaching/leadership experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Excels in the provision of patient care and participates in establishing excellence in standards of care and practice.
  • Verifies competency of staff through testing and observation of practice.
  • Manages resources judiciously.
  • Develops instructional plans and methodologies to respond to learning needs of staff.
  • Markets, conducts, evaluates and maintains records for educational sessions covering unit-based orientation, on-the-job training, computer use, preceptor programs, customer service, clinical education, retraining and clinical leadership development.
  • Coordinates, prepares and updates curriculum to meet unit-based clinical and professional standards and to ensure continued accreditation.
  • Serves as a leader, researcher, change agent and consultant for quality educational opportunities and organizational activities.
  • Continuously improves quality.
  • Fosters exemplary customer service
  • Provides direct patient care.
