About The Position

The Nurse Education Manager – Trauma & Clinical Certifications is an advanced role responsible for the management, administration, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities, with a primary focus on overseeing trauma and emergency certification programs. This includes direct oversight of Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), and other certification-based courses (e.g., ENPC, ECMO, etc). The role encompasses orientation, staff development, competency assessments, and certification course coordination across the health system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Professional board certification in a clinical specialty or staff development is recommended.
  • Demonstrated competence and progressive experience in Education and Management/Administration within the assigned clinical specialty.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of emergency or trauma nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience coordinating or teaching AHA prorams, TNCC, ATLS, ENPC, or similar certification courses required.
  • Experience with adult education principles, simulation-based learning, and competency assessment preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse with current registration in New York State.
  • Current TNCC Provider status required; TNCC Instructor status required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • ATLS Coordinator status highly preferred; collaboration with the physician ATLS Course Director is expected.
  • MS Office Suite: Intermediate proficiency required.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and electronic medical record documentation systems required.
  • Evidence of ability to maintain and promote interpersonal relationships, communicate appropriately to others, and work effectively and efficiently to solve problems.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a team, displaying effective communication and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrates organized work methods and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to walk, stand, lift, stoop, push, and respond quickly in a variety of situations and for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity to perform a variety of clinical procedures relevant to the practice area (e.g., venipuncture, urinary catheterization, cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
  • Ability to use data entry, retrieval systems, and the electronic medical record documentation system in a proficient manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related Healthcare field with experience in Nursing Education and/or Nursing Leadership preferred; Master's in Nursing Education strongly preferred.
  • Candidates actively enrolled in a graduate program will be considered with confirmed, close graduation dates.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development and implementation of the certification course budget, including capital equipment allocation for certification courses and simulation resources, and makes recommendations according to MSHS financial goals.
  • Maintains, reviews, and evaluates educational record-keeping and reporting systems for all certification programs, including TNCC, ATLS, and other trauma/emergency certifications, and modifies as necessary.
  • Conducts and participates in meetings.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and communication techniques necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Observes established MSHS mandatory educational requirements.
  • Reviews and formulates departmental and program objectives in accordance with corporate policies, strategies, and goals.
  • Participates in the management of external consulting services (e.g., schools of nursing, TNCC/ATLS course directors, professional experts).
  • Acts as a management representative for the MSHS or department on committees as designated.
  • Participates in the formulation of departmental policies and procedures based on evidence, best practices, and expert opinion, including policies governing certification course delivery and recertification timelines.
  • Acts as resource person for staff regarding Department of Nursing policies and procedures, including certification requirements.
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention of staff, including certified TNCC/ATLS instructors and course faculty.
  • Evaluates staff competencies and compliance with patient care and unit documentation requirements.
  • Serves as the primary administrator and coordinator for TNCC, ATLS, and other designated trauma and certification courses, ensuring compliance with sponsoring organization standards (e.g., ENA, ACS, AHA).
  • Manages all logistics for certification course offerings, including scheduling, faculty coordination, course materials, equipment, and registration processes.
  • Maintains current TNCC Provider/Instructor status and, where applicable, ATLS coordinator status; partners with physician course directors for ATLS administration.
  • Ensures ongoing availability of certified instructors to meet health system-wide course delivery needs; recruits, develops, and mentors new TNCC and other course instructors.
  • Tracks and maintains records of staff certifications, provider cards, and recertification deadlines across the health system; communicates proactively with nursing leadership to address lapses.
  • Participates in the development of other staff members and shares feedback both in written and verbal format with nursing leadership.
  • Meets regulatory, licensure, and annual health assessment requirements.
  • Identifies learning strengths and needs of designated staff.
  • Identifies and designs programs that facilitate organizational development.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational activities at the level of the learner, the department, and the institution.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements activities to achieve educational objectives.
  • Conducts reviews and evaluates educational needs assessments.
  • Selects appropriate instructional strategies for educational programs, including simulation, skills labs, and scenario-based learning relevant to trauma and emergency nursing.
  • Designs, develops, and organizes training manuals, references, web-based and multi-media instructional aids, and other educational materials.
  • Acts as a trainer, facilitator, consultant, and supervisor to orientees.
  • Serves as a professional role model and preceptor for new staff and students.
  • Contributes to the profession of nursing through leadership and participation in professional organizations (e.g., Emergency Nurses Association, Society of Trauma Nurses).

The salary range for the role is $115,494.00 - $173,241.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
