About The Position

The Director of Med/Surg Telemetry & Neuro-Ortho Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for two inpatient nursing units, overseeing 24/7 operations to ensure exceptional patient care, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This leader is responsible for driving clinical performance, workforce engagement/staffing, budget and continuous process improvement while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. Drives quality and performance improvement initiatives while ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance. Working closely with physicians, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams, the Director develops and executes departmental strategies aligned with the organization's mission and goals to deliver outstanding patient experiences and nationally recognized clinical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with an active State of Florida License.
  • BLS and ACLS required.
  • Two years experience in nursing at management level.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and / or health care related services preferred.
  • Master's Degree and national certification in specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs nursing service activities for the assigned unit.
  • Has a 24 hour a day, seven days a week responsibility for the nursing operations within the respective unit.
  • Ensures the highest level of clinical quality, customer service and cost effectiveness.
  • Integrates the assigned areas of responsibility into the Medical Center's philosophy, mission and vision.
  • Establishes the annual operating goals and objectives for the assigned unit based on the Medical Center's needs and challenges.
  • Makes sure the nursing unit efforts are aligned with the Medical Director and Top Management goals and objectives.
  • Participates in / and or leads cross functional teams and is willing to make rapid and sound changes for the Medical Center to be a National and International leader in clinical outcomes.
  • Plans, organizes and directs activities of the assigned unit through the management of the team leaders and supervisors.
  • Prepares the unit annual operating and capital expense budget for the assigned unit.
  • Works in conjunction with nursing administration to identify upcoming expenses.
  • Anticipates and implements the purchase and / or replacement of equipment using input from staff and physicians.
  • Maintains budgetary / fiscal practices within provisions.
  • Periodically monitors budget expenses, identifies variances and reports as appropriate.
  • Implements alternate solutions for the nursing unit to comply with budget.
  • Organizes the establishment of new programs and / or the re-modeling of existing programs to achieve the unit and Medical Center goals.
  • Ensures all processes and procedures provide for consistent, timely, high quality and cost effective clinical results.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving clinical care within the assigned unit towards the goal of being rated among the best in the United States.
  • This includes but is not limited to: maintaining all appropriate licenses and accreditations, timely reporting of incidents, with the appropriate peer review, correction of issues leading up to incidents in a timely and appropriate manner, and monitoring of compliance through safety / other regulations established by the respective regulatory/accreditation agencies.
  • Creates, integrates and initiates new concepts and practices to improve patient and family care as well as physician and employee satisfaction.
  • Provides leadership in complex and / or stressful situations, counsels staff and / or physicians based on factual and objective information.
  • Ensures timely and appropriate actions for resolution.
  • Actively participates in Medical Center re-organization initiatives, as required by top management.
  • Proactively makes necessary changes to complete any departmental changes with minimal impact to patients, physicians and employees.
  • Identifies staffing patterns to cover the unit's needs around the clock.
  • Sets and monitors staff schedules in relation to patient acuity, census, technology and resources management to meet budgetary needs.
  • Acts as a focal communication point with other departments.
  • Coordinates and integrates inter-departmental services.
  • Assesses and improves the services provided within the unit by implementing the Performance Improvement program.
  • Monitors and enforces the activities related to performance improvement and quality control.
  • Participates in cross-organizational activities to improve the performance of the unit and share the learning with the team.
  • Supports the database information system.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the system - understands data entry, maintenance and reporting.
  • Ensures the maintenance of the appropriate documentation as required by professional and Medical Center standards.
  • Establishes and maintains Medical Center safety and compliance policies.
