About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The Division of Health Service Regulation oversees medical, mental health and adult care facilities, emergency medical services, and local jails. We check to see that people receiving care in these facilities are safe and receive appropriate care. We make certain that medical buildings are built only when there is a need for them.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina
  • One year of experience in the area of specialization.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques. This includes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation).
  • Knowledge of the area of professional training, principles and practices of health care organization and management, including state statutes, state licensure rules for regulated facilities and federal standards, regulations and policies required for participation in the Medicare/ Medicaid programs.
  • Intermediate computer skills: Windows XP Professional, MS Office Products, use of flash drive, data management using folders, import, export functions, as well as the ability to master new computer technology and complete work electronically.
  • Ability to conduct, review, gather and assess and evaluate information gathered for compliance with applicable standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies to different situations and facilities.
  • Ability to document compliance information clearly and concisely using various technologies

Responsibilities

  • To license and certify, either through on-site survey process or in office review of documentation, health care providers and suppliers' participation in State Licensure program and/or Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement programs.
  • To provide regulatory oversight of state licensed and I or Medicare certified providers by conducting standard surveys and complaint investigations, to determine compliance with State Licensure and/or Federal Certification guidelines, for the following programs: Acute Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Psychiatric Hospitals, Abortion Clinics, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Cardiac Rehabilitation Centers, End Stage Renal Disease Providers, Portable XRAY, Rural Health Clinics, Outpatient Rehabilitation Therapists, and Rehabilitation Facility.
