Nurse Clinician - Gastroenterology

Children's Wisconsin•Milwaukee, WI

About The Position

Children’s Wisconsin is seeking a Nurse Clinician to join its Pediatric Gastroenterology team at the Main Campus. This full-time RN position combines direct patient care with indirect care coordination in the Gastroenterology ambulatory clinic. The nurse supports children with chronic and complex GI conditions through in-person and electronic interactions, including clinic support, patient education, complex teaching, procedural coordination, nursing assessments, and interventions such as G-tube care and medication administration. The Nurse Clinician promotes wellness, supports the management of acute illness, and helps manage chronic disease and disability across the continuum of care. Using critical thinking, the nursing process, experiential knowledge, and evidence-based guidelines, the nurse partners with patients and caregivers as an advocate, support, and teacher. The role facilitates continuity of care through interprofessional collaboration and coordination, connecting children and families with appropriate health care services and community resources while respecting their culture, values, needs, goals, and treatment preferences. The RN also coordinates care by managing phone triage and voicemail messages, supporting prior authorizations, coordinating follow-up care, assisting with medication and supply needs, and collaborating with providers, medical assistants, and community resources. The role uses telehealth and other telecommunications technologies to help remove time and distance barriers to care.
