About The Position

This position is for an Advanced Beginner Clinician (RN) on the 4S Med/Surg unit, working day shifts. The clinician possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to meet nursing standards for professional practice without supervision, recognizing when assistance is needed and seeking appropriate resources. Practice is characterized by a balance of dependent and interdependent decision-making, with a focus on expanding knowledge and skills for the specialty area. The role involves providing patient care through nursing-based practices aligned with the American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Practice and Professional Performance, and valuing specialty unit, nursing, and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) license or valid permit to practice in Texas.
Six months of clinical RN experience and/or successful completion of probationary NC I period documented on nursing evaluation tool.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily care of assigned patients.
Identifies nursing diagnoses/patient care needs and develops/individualizes a care plan, revising it as needed.
Executes physician's orders, administers medications and treatments, and delivers competent nursing care in accordance with UTMB's policies, procedures, and standards.
Performs routine technical procedures/skills in the assigned specialty area.
Provides basic patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching based on identified learning needs.
Identifies potential impact of family dynamics.
Utilizes evidence-based resources to provide patient/family education and uses Teach-Back to determine effectiveness.
Plans, coordinates, and prioritizes patient care activities according to skill level and work complexity.
Maintains safety and continuity of care using methods such as bedside shift report and inter-disciplinary rounding.
Demonstrates effective time management skills and delegates appropriately, seeking guidance when needed.
Demonstrates competent use of technology in patient care delivery.
Identifies ethical situations and seeks assistance to resolve them, utilizing available resources.
Delivers culturally sensitive care using resources to meet patient/family needs.
Serves as a patient advocate, seeking guidance when necessary.
Supports a healthy work environment by demonstrating respectful communication with the healthcare team and seeking assistance for challenging communication.

Consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation for all patient, unit, and hospital records.
Competently utilizes electronic forms of communication and documentation.
Meets periodic UTMB and unit-specific compliance requirements for health screening, training, attendance, safety, and CPR.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
