About The Position

This is a paid internship for Summer 2027 for individuals obtaining their BSN and who have 1 or 2 semesters remaining following Summer 2027. The internship is 10-12 weeks long and pays $20.00/hr. The shifts are varied depending on the department, with a requirement of 72 hours per 2 weeks. Avera St. Luke's Hospital is seeking motivated individuals to join their multidisciplinary team. The Nurse Clinical Intern, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse mentor, will utilize the nursing process to provide patient care, taking responsibility and accountability for their actions and outcomes.

Requirements

Must be obtaining BSN and have 1 or 2 semesters remaining following Summer 2027.
Currently enrolled and have completed all but the final one or two semesters of CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
Must be able to work the hours specified.
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.

Responsibilities

Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians.
Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables.
Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources.
