About The Position

The Community Mental Health Nurse (CMHN), reporting to the Manager of Mental Health & Addiction Services, is an essential element in a comprehensive Mental Health Service. The CMHN has extensive knowledge of the evidence based principles and practices of Community Health Nursing. A large portion of the CMHN's work is based outside of the clinic working independently. Each skilled CMHN is expected to monitor and administer medication, assess clinical status, provide case management, develop behavioral treatment programs, provide coverage for other recovery services team members, provide counselling and education and provide various forms of psychotherapy, including individual, family and group therapy. A CMHN provides health promotion, education and early intervention/prevention to the communities they work in. This position works in an integrated manner with other mental health and addiction programs.

Requirements

  • 2 years recent nursing exp. in community mental health, homecare, ER environment
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BScPN)
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Registered/eligible with College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of SK - CRPNS

  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable

  • Ability to develop and deliver formal education programs
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated working knowledge in the area of psychopharmacology
  • Ability to exercise independent nursing judgement
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act
  • Proven ability to cope well with sustained work related emotional pressure
  • Ability to travel when required
