About The Position

As a member of Corewell Health’s nursing team, the Nurse Assistant provides patient care according to individual care plans, unit routines, and hospital policies under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The role also supports patient safety, documentation, patient transport, and the efficient operation of the nursing unit. The position is based in the Progressive Care Unit 6NE at Royal Oak Hospital, with a day shift schedule of 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and every other weekend.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Nice To Haves

• Previous hospital or nursing home experience.
• Nursing Assistant credential from the Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Community and Health Systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care according to the plan of care, specific unit routines, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
• Transport patients safely by wheelchair or stretcher, coordinate dispatch services, and document services appropriately.
• Provide in-person or remote video observation for patients assessed as requiring constant observation to maximize their safety.
• Perform general receptionist and clerical duties to support efficient nursing unit operations.
• Maintain current knowledge and certification.
• Attend required safety training and understand responsibilities related to general, department/service, and job-specific safety hazards.
• Follow Hospital Exposure Control Plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
• Treat patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees with respect and regard for their dignity, maintaining a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Build effective working relationships and collaborate with department and unit teams to support their goals and objectives.
