About The Position
The 8 South Neuro unit is a 52-bed progressive/medical surgical unit that is comprehensive Stroke certified. It offers a solid foundation in nursing for new graduates and focuses on acute strokes, neurosurgical interventions (craniotomies, spine procedures, VP shunts), and includes a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit. The unit is fast-paced and provides numerous learning opportunities. Teamwork, staff encouragement, professionalism, integrity, respect, a positive and eager attitude, strong organizational skills, flexibility, and effective communication with patients, families, and coworkers are highly valued. Patience and compassion are essential for this patient population.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
Nice To Haves
- Completion of nursing assistant program and/or one year of nursing assistant experience
- Nursing Assistant certification
Responsibilities
- Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services.
- Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety.
- Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
- Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.
