About The Position
The 8 South Neuro unit is a 52-bed progressive/medical surgical unit, comprehensive Stroke certified, that offers a solid foundation in nursing for new graduates. The unit focuses on acute strokes, neurosurgical interventions such as craniotomies, spine procedures, and VP shunts. Additionally, it includes a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit. The unit is fast-paced and provides numerous learning opportunities. Key attributes for success on this unit include teamwork, staff encouragement, professionalism, integrity, respect, a positive and eager-to-learn attitude, high organization, flexibility, effective communication with patients, families, and coworkers. Patience and compassion are extremely important for our patient population.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
Nice To Haves
- Completion of nursing assistant program and/or one year of nursing assistant experience
- Nursing Assistant certification
Responsibilities
- Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services.
- Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety.
- Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
- Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.
