About The Position

This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan. The Nurse Anesthetist provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. They accurately monitor patients and perform CPR, ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center. The role involves managing the patients’ physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiating corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician. The Nurse Anesthetist will also assist with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Requirements

  • RN: Registered Nurse
  • Michigan state license as Registered Nurse.
  • ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Within 6 months of hire or transfer)
  • CRNA: Certified RN Anesthetist
  • Michigan state speciality license as a Nurse Anesthetist.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support (Within 1 month of hire or transfer)
  • NBCRNA: National Board CRNA
  • Nurse Anesthetist education.
  • Written, organization, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups to interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Competency in Microsoft® Windows.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
  • Prepares the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia.
  • Administers, manages, and monitors anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
  • Takes appropriate safety precautions to insure the safe administration of his/her anesthesia care.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department.
  • Provide clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform basic and advanced skills required practicing anesthesia. These may include but are not limited to: Adult and pediatric venipuncture, Arterial line insertion, Medication calculation and effects, Sterile technique, Airway maintenance, Administration and management of regional anesthetics.
  • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
