About The Position

This role involves assisting nurses with various patient care duties, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and accurate documentation. Responsibilities include performing vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, and specialized procedures like glucose testing and wound care. The Nurse Aide will also manage supplies, maintain a clean work environment, and communicate effectively with patients and staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • 6 months to 1 year experience in a healthcare setting
  • BLS - AHA approved

Responsibilities

  • Assist the nurse with various duties as directed, including placing specialty mattresses when applicable.
  • Perform proper glucose testing and record results accurately and timely.
  • Participate in FALLS PREVENTION PROGRAM and identify patients at risk for falls.
  • Practice wound prevention protocol, proper use of PPE, and maintain Universal Precautions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality of patient, facility, and physician-related information, ensuring HIPAA competency and compliance.
  • Perform and record patient weight, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation, and pulse in a timely manner and record in the computer.
  • Administer complete/partial baths, oral care, denture care, hair care, foley care, shaving, and bed making.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient restraints and assure patient safety.
  • Assist in toileting needs of patients, assist to bathrooms, place bedpan and empty, record and observe patient intake and output accurately, and empty collection devices (foleys).
  • Maintain an organized and clean work space and complete assignments in a timely timeframe.
  • Perform postpartum care.
  • Communicate accurately, both verbally and in writing, and maintain a harmonious work environment with co-workers and staff.
  • Safely transport patients via wheelchair and/or stretcher.
  • Answer the phone promptly and courteously.
  • Transport specimens to the lab and record in the book.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist when needed, serve fresh water daily and snacks when needed.
  • Answer patient call lights promptly, respond to patient needs and inquiries, and provide quality care in a personal manner.
  • Collect specimens as instructed, including urine, sputum, and stool specimens, ensuring specimen containers are labeled and placed in a biohazard bag.
  • Position patients, use LYCO lift, transfer patients from bed to chair and reverse, lift patients properly with correct body mechanics to prevent personal injury, assist patients out of bed, and ambulate as needed.
  • Perform EKGs and document when performed.
  • Report all abnormal findings to the nurse assigned or charge nurse.
  • Perform hourly rounding on patients to ensure needs are met and patient safety is upheld.
  • Notify the nurse assigned when taking breaks or meals.
  • Perform enemas when assigned.
  • Manage supplies to avoid bringing excessive supplies into patient rooms.
  • Act in the role of the patient sitter.
  • Adhere to standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care that is specific to those needs (e.g., culture, hearing and/or visually impaired).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
