About The Position

Wound Care Technicians provide specialized support in delivering wound care to patients under the direction of a licensed nurse. They perform tasks in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of New Mexico and Cibola General Hospital’s policies and procedures. The work supports patient healing and comfort through assistance with wound assessment, cleansing, dressing changes, and documentation.

The technician assists providers with wound care treatments, including cleansing wounds and applying dressings; maintains instruments, supplies, and PAR levels; obtains medical records internally and externally; and sets up referrals as needed. The position also involves assisting with patients of varying ages and may require floating to other areas of the hospital. Candidates must know or be willing to learn wound care principles and wound healing concepts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• A combination of education and experience providing knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to assigned duties.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Understanding of and ability to perform sterile technique.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal tactfully with staff, physicians, patients, and their families.
• Knowledge and ability to care for patients in different age categories.
• Current BLS certification, or ability to obtain it within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist staff with various tasks as assigned, including floating to other areas of the hospital.
