Nurse Aide/Unit Secretary - Med Surg
About The Position
This role supports patients/residents with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, and takes vital signs, height, and weight measurements. The position involves feeding and ambulating patients/residents according to specific procedures, maintaining a clean and orderly patient room, and observing and reporting changes in patient/resident conditions. The Nurse Aide/Unit Secretary will also orient patients/families to the unit, instruct patients on safety measures, and assist with clerical tasks such as answering phones, entering data, and maintaining medical records. Additionally, the role includes maintaining stock supply items in inventory management, performing duties within the scope of a Nurse Aide II, and performing technical tasks such as administering a 12-Lead Electrocardiogram test and routine venipuncture with appropriate training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required for new hires on or after 7/22/2018.
- Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide II.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
- Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job.
- Will share information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
- Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Must speak and understand English in good understandable terms.
- Must have manual and finger dexterity.
- Physical abilities testing required.
Responsibilities

- Performs duties as outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide II (per applicable state Board of Nursing Nurse Aide II Tasks List).
