About The Position

The Nurse Aide in Training program allows employees to receive online and on-the-floor training to become a Nurse Aide. Individuals demonstrating good customer service, reliability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic may be eligible for no-cost Education Assistance to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). This assistance can be provided through classes at a Regency location, a local community college or technical school program, or an internship with a waiver to test out. Nurse Aides and CNAs work under the direction of Charge Nurses, assisting residents with daily living activities as outlined in their care plans. Compassion, friendliness, and a desire to help others are essential for providing the expected level of personal care. Before starting the Nurse Aide class, new hires will work as a Hospitality Aide for a minimum of two weeks. This introductory period helps both the employee and the facility determine if the CNA role is a good fit and provides an understanding of resident care responsibilities. During this time, the Hospitality Aide will perform supportive, non-clinical duties that do not require certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide residents with comfort and safety; including being able to detect and report situations that may cause resident accidents or injuries
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with resident care policy and procedure
  • Assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents from area to area, lifting, and transferring
  • Utilize and log in care provided into Electronic Medical Records system
  • Measure and record vital signs
  • Observe and report symptoms, reactions, and changes of conditions to residents to nursing staff
  • Maintain care of equipment and supplies
  • Walk with ambulatory residents or push in a wheelchair as required
  • Safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting in excess of 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Answer call lights in a timely manner, trying to address the need of the resident or determine if assistance is needed from a Charge Nurse or another department
  • Always provide good customer service - tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations
  • Other duties as assigned by Administrator or Nurse Management
  • Answering call lights (as Hospitality Aide)
  • Making beds and assisting with maintaining resident rooms (as Hospitality Aide)
  • Passing water and supporting resident comfort (as Hospitality Aide)
  • Passing trays in the dining hall (as Hospitality Aide)
  • Assisting staff with other basic resident needs that do not require certification (as Hospitality Aide)
