About The Position

This position involves providing direct care to residents, with opportunities for advancement to a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) upon successful completion of training and testing. The role also includes hospitality duties such as preparing resident rooms, escorting residents, and assisting with personal belongings. The job requires adherence to facility policies, maintaining resident confidentiality, and reporting any changes in resident condition or incidents to the supervisor. Requirements

  • High School Education/Equivalent
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must possess, as a minimum, a High School Education/Equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to residents within training limitations.
  • Advance to STNA upon successful completion of training and testing.
  • Become familiar with the facility’s administrative structure.
  • Identify residents using wristband or photo card before administering treatments or serving meals.
  • Report all observed accidents and incidents promptly.
  • Use only authorized abbreviations when recording information.
  • Report all changes in resident’s condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident’s protected health information and report any suspected violations.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access the facility’s information system.
  • Perform only trained nursing care procedures.
  • Ensure resident rooms are ready for new admissions.
  • Greet residents and escort them to their rooms.
  • Introduce residents to staff and other residents.
  • Inventory and mark resident’s personal possessions.
  • Store resident’s clothing.
  • Assist residents with packing personal possessions during transfers or discharges.
  • Transport residents to new rooms or receiving areas.
  • Assist with loading/unloading residents to/from vehicles.
  • Participate in and receive nursing reports.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Make beds and add extra covers as requested.
  • Measure and record resident temperatures, pulses, and respirations (TPRs).
  • Weigh and measure residents as instructed.
  • Ensure residents unable to call for help are checked frequently.
  • Answer resident calls promptly.
  • Check residents routinely to ensure personal care needs are met.
  • Assist residents with identifying food arrangements and recording food/fluid intake.
  • Report changes in resident’s eating habits to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Keep resident water pitchers clean, filled, and within reach.
  • Perform after-meal care.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Follow work assignments and schedules.
  • Cooperate with inter-departmental and other facility personnel.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of information.
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
  • Honor resident’s refusal of treatment requests and report them to the supervisor.
