About The Position

TRIUMF's Applied Technology Group is seeking a fully qualified and experienced Technician to maintain, repair, improve, and calibrate nuclear ventilation systems and related components. TRIUMF is Canada's particle accelerator centre, a not-for-profit research lab focused on advancing isotope science and technology, and fostering discovery and innovation across various scientific disciplines. The technician will be a key member of a diverse community of researchers and professionals, contributing to a unique incubator for Canadian excellence and global collaborations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated and up-to-date knowledge of HVAC systems, electromechanical systems, and controls.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to the design, calibration, testing, and manufacturing of relevant components/systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of control systems relating to HVAC, cooling systems, and electrical power distribution systems.
  • Experience with calibration of sensors and instrumentation used on building systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to use specialized techniques to solve problems, and adapt and react appropriately to new situations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work well under stress.
  • Must complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.
  • A technology diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field from a technical college or institute.
  • At least 4 years of relevant and practical work experience.
  • Legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Responsibilities

  • Independently carry out maintenance, repair, and calibration of nuclear ventilation systems and components according to outlines and procedures.
  • Provide input for the proper operation and improvements of the RCA ventilation and control systems.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of building systems, including ventilation, heating, domestic water, and compressed air systems.
  • Contribute to design changes and improvements to the nuclear ventilation system in consultation with experts.
  • Prepare and maintain work procedures for testing and calibration.
  • Demonstrate and instruct users on the usage and operation of the nuclear ventilation system.
  • Maintain, repair, and improve the DOC system.
  • Follow all applicable safety regulations and ensure their proper implementation.
  • May oversee the work of other personnel and junior-level technicians.
