This role is for a Nuclear Turbine Maintenance Technician I or II at the Robinson Nuclear Plant. The technician is a skilled mechanic responsible for all aspects of nuclear plant mechanical maintenance, requiring a broad knowledge of plant mechanical maintenance fundamentals and the ability to function as part of a team. They perform high-quality preventive and corrective maintenance on nuclear plant equipment to maintain optimum levels of equipment reliability. Work activities include performing disassembly/reassembly of large steam turbines, electrical generators, and other plant equipment, as well as rigging and crane operation activities.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED)
Valid driver’s license
One and one-half (1½) years of directly related experience (for Technician II)
Proven mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Basic technical writing skills
Basic computer skills
Ability to successfully pass the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) test
Ability to successfully pass basic Maintenance Training
Ability to gain and maintain nuclear access
Respirator Clearance/SCBA
Mandatory hearing protection program
Nuclear Pre-Access Drug Screen

Nice To Haves

Two-year technical school degree, or equivalent experience or training (e.g., military)
Prior experience in rigging and lifting
Possess ACAD Accredited Program Qualification to operate Cab Operated Polar or Gantry Cranes to perform NUREG-0612 lifts in accordance with site specific load path procedures
CNC machining skills and experience
Basic understanding of power tool operation and precision tool usage
Demonstrated diagnostic and analytical skills
Demonstrated proficiency utilizing advanced computer skills
Demonstrated experience with, and support of, following safety processes administrative procedures and technical procedures
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers in all levels of an organization

Responsibilities

Performing disassembly/reassembly of large steam turbines, electrical generators, and other plant equipment.
Performing rigging and crane operation activities.
Performing high quality preventive and corrective maintenance on nuclear plant equipment.
Maintaining optimum levels of equipment reliability.
Supporting Duke Nuclear Fleet maintenance outages and maintenance activities.
Disassembling and reassembling large steam turbines and electrical generators.
Performing tasks requiring the use of weight rated equipment, with max ratings ranging from 275lbs to 325lbs.
Performing tasks that involve climbing ladders and stairs and working at elevated heights.
Performing tasks that involve standing, kneeling, crawling, walking, climbing, and working in tight spaces.
Working in extreme temperatures (hot/cold).
Performing tasks that require lifting 50 pounds.
