About The Position

Our Nuclear Services team operates at the forefront of advanced engineering and real-world problem-solving within complex industrial environments. We are involved in the entire lifecycle of specialized nuclear tooling, from initial development through on-site execution in operating nuclear facilities, and subsequent improvements. This role offers deep ownership, with team members contributing to the design, commissioning, deployment, troubleshooting, and enhancement of tools used for inspection, maintenance, and refurbishment. The insights gained on-site directly influence the next generation of tools and processes. The team functions as a crucial link between engineering, operations, and nuclear customers, providing expert support during critical, often outage-based, projects to ensure tooling reliability and readiness.

Requirements

A Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or Tool and Die Maker or equivalent certifications from other Provinces or Countries.
Completion of a Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification in the above-mentioned trades.
Experience in integrating and assembly of custom factory automation.
Equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.
Work in compliance with divisional health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tag out methods.
Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
Report defects in any equipment or protective device.
Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
Attend all required health, safety, and environmental training.
Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct.

Responsibilities

Under general direction, machine, fit, and assemble component parts and precision tooling with a focus on quality and timeliness to build special-purpose machinery, robotic work cells, and factory automation projects.
When required, coordinate activities of a team of Toolmakers and apprentices in the mechanical build, coordination, bench assembly, floor assembly, and integration of robotic work cells, mechanical assemblies, and factory automation products to ensure quality, on-time, safe, and budget-compliant builds.
Set up and operate various machine tools, such as manual lathes and small mills, applying knowledge of mechanisms, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to support the assembly team with new work or rework.
Manage small to medium projects.
Support Intermediate Toolmakers and fill in temporarily in their absence.
Potentially lead a team, manage small to medium projects, or program cells/stations with low to medium complexity.
Engage with the engineering team in concept development for small to medium projects with low to medium complexity and provide labor estimates.
Work collaboratively with other mechanical assembly personnel, electricians, programmers, and other departments to meet customer requirements.
Demonstrate a practical working knowledge of all toolroom equipment.
Machine details, apply tolerances on prints, understand GD&T, and know where to apply it.
Recognize the function and relationship of all details within mechanical assemblies.
Take direction from the Manager and the appointed Lead Toolmaker.
Proficiently understand and utilize the tracking system.
Provide project status updates for weekly team meetings.
Support the manufacturing department with any questions that arise.
Ensure all print updates are completed.
Proceed with floor assembly according to floor plan layout, assembling the job in a safe and proper order according to procedures, and providing other departments with necessary tooling.
Participate in the debug/integration of the line, checking preliminary station setup, assessing cycle time achievability, and advising the Lead Toolmaker of potential issues.
Run the entire line with the team to check functionality of operator stations, operator interface, loading/unloading areas, and guarding for ease of maintenance.
Perform rework efficiently to minimize impact on budget and schedule.
Ensure all rework is properly recorded.
Assemble and assist in testing activities related to the construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization, if applicable.
Strictly follow CSA N285/NQA Quality requirements.
Provide mechanical support during debug/integration and acceptance.
Participate in the tear down and shipping of equipment, dismantling in an orderly fashion to minimize installation time at the customer’s site.
Travel to customer job sites as required.
Act as an ambassador for ATS at customer sites, providing quick and efficient installation of equipment.
Follow all safety procedures according to the ATS Health and Safety Manual and onsite customer procedures.
Reassemble equipment to the point of buy-off at the customer’s site.
Provide customer training as required.
Fill out daily site reports.
Work with the group leader/manager to be a positive, motivating force within the team.
Train apprentices according to ATS manufacturing standards and Machine Tool Builder and Integrator apprenticeship training standards.
Communicate constructive or objective ideas to help keep manufacturing standards up-to-date.
Utilize the team as a pool of technical knowledge to solve problems efficiently.
Ensure all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
