About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has an immediate opening for a Nuclear Scientist/Engineer to serve as a point of contact for the Region 7 Radiological Assistance Program (RAP), coordinating regional technical and scientific interests for LLNL nuclear emergency preparedness and response activities within the Strategic Threat Analysis and Response (STAR) Principal Directorate. RAP provides an agile, scalable, rapidly deployable federal first-response capability for radiological/nuclear crisis operations and consequence management. This position is considered a Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) First Responder. The employee must maintain required training, qualifications, and readiness for deployment. The role requires domestic and international travel, potentially frequent and sometimes to austere environments, and may involve a 24-hour/7-day watch bill rotation. The position may be filled at the SES.2 or SES.3 level based on knowledge and related experience; additional responsibilities at SES.3 include independently resolving highly technical and complex problems and leading projects from planning through completion. This is a Career Indefinite position open to Lab employees and external candidates. LLNL offers a flexible benefits package, 401(k), relocation assistance, education reimbursement, and flexible schedules depending on project needs. A DOE Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance from another U.S. government agency is required at hire. External applicants selected must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required. Depending on duties, work in Limited Areas may restrict possession of personal or laboratory mobile and wireless devices.
