About The Position

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs those duties related to the administration of radioactive materials, maintaining high professional standards at all times with attention to customer service, patient care and the production of high quality exams. This role involves operating various computer systems for imaging, analysis, order entry, billing, and data processing, as well as handling radiation detection equipment safely. The technologist is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment, accurately logging patient procedures, and providing age-appropriate care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. They perform Nuclear Medicine studies according to departmental procedures, ensuring the quality and accuracy of images, and correctly charging for exams. Additionally, the role includes performing computer analysis of patient studies and assigned quality control procedures.

Requirements

Highest academic diploma or transcript.
Experience in a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Experience with computerized scanning equipment and study analysis.
State of Oregon Nuclear Medicine License.
Certificate of Nuclear Medicine Technology from the A.R.R.R.T. or N.M.T.C.B.
Certification for Nuclear Medicine required within 90 days of hire.
Current Healthcare Provider BLS.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills.
Presents a professional image.
Uses departmental equipment as listed below safely according to manufacturer’s recommendations and departmental/organization procedures.
Follows policies for infection control, disposal of hazardous waste and sharps, use of personal protective equipment.
Uses proper body mechanics for transporting and positioning patients and equipment and other tasks performed.
Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.
Requests assistance or additional explanation when needed.
Utilizes appropriate problem-solving techniques to resolve complaints, concerns, or conflicts.
Works and communicates in a positive and cooperative manner with management, supervisors, medical staff, co-workers, other healthcare workers, patients, and their families.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a certified school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
Two (2) years’ experience in Nuclear Medicine.
Bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities

Prepares and administers radio-pharmaceuticals under the direction of a Nuclear Medicine Physician.
Operates several types of computers for the purposes of imaging, computer analysis of patient studies, order entry, billing, data entry and word-processing.
Operates radiation detection equipment with safety.
Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work area; reports potential safety hazards.
Maintains an accurate log of all patients and procedures.
Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
Performs Nuclear Medicine studies according to departmental procedures, expands or modifies procedures as needed to comply with the medical director’s wishes.
Monitors images produced during Nuclear Medicine studies to insure that they are as clear and accurate as possible; makes adjustments as necessary.
Charges exams correctly on the order communication system.
Performs computer analysis of patient studies.
Performs assigned quality control procedures by following written quality control procedures and accurately logging the results.
Answering the phone and scheduling.
Participates in scheduled staff/department meetings.
Participates in in-service programs and continuing education.
