The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies to produce scans of radioactive isotopes in specified anatomical parts and systems. This role involves collecting pertinent patient data, verifying physician orders, and ensuring patient safety and understanding of procedures. The technologist analyzes information to determine optimal scanning parameters, administers radiopharmaceuticals, positions patients, and obtains optimal images. They are responsible for assessing image quality, sending images to PACS, and documenting all aspects of patient care, exams, and history. Maintaining equipment, disposing of radioactive waste, and responding to emergencies are also key functions. The position may involve rotating shifts, standby, and on-call duties, with potential local travel between system locations.
