Nuclear Medicine Technologist (No Patient Care)

ONE PHYSICS HOLDINGS LLCKansas, MO
$100,000 - $150,000Onsite

About The Position

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced imaging or radiation professional who wants to step out of direct patient care and build a long-term career in radiation safety and medical physics. You will begin by performing radioactive material (RAM) program audits for our clients, then progress under the mentorship of our physicists into diagnostic imaging equipment performance testing (“x-ray” QC) and, ultimately, a Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) track. If you have spent years in a clinical setting, understand radiation and imaging modalities, and are looking for a credentialed, growth-oriented role with predictable, daytime field work, this position is designed for you.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience — in a clinical imaging, nuclear medicine, or radiation-related role — for example a Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)), Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT/RT(N)), Radiation Therapist, Sonographer, or Health Physics Technician.
  • Genuinely looking to transition out of patient care — into the radiation safety / medical physics field.
  • Solid working knowledge — of radiation principles, imaging modalities, and radiation dose and safety concepts.
  • Detail-oriented — and comfortable with documentation, audits, and regulatory recordkeeping.
  • Self-directed and dependable — in a field role, with strong professional communication skills when working directly with client staff.
  • Based in the Kansas City metro — with a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel daily to client sites (typically a 30–90 minute one-way commute).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior radiation safety, RSO support, or health physics experience.
  • NRRPT certification or relevant coursework.
  • Familiarity with NRC / Agreement State regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site radioactive material (RAM) license compliance audits at hospital and clinic client locations.
  • Perform sealed-source leak (wipe) testing, source inventory reconciliation, and area radiation/contamination surveys.
  • Verify survey meter calibration, check instrumentation, and confirm proper posting, labeling, and storage.
  • Review client radiation safety program documentation — dosimetry records, training records, RSO logs — for regulatory compliance.
  • Assist Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs) with recordkeeping, corrective actions, and reporting in accordance with NRC and applicable state regulations.
  • Document findings clearly and professionally, and communicate results to client contacts and One Physics physicists.
  • Train alongside board-certified medical physicists to perform performance testing and quality control on diagnostic x-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, mammography, and related imaging equipment.
  • Support ACR accreditation testing and shielding survey work.
  • Progress toward designation as a Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA), performing supervised physics testing as part of a defined career ladder.
