About The Position

As a Nuclear Technologist, you will prepare, administer and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies using a variety of radioisotope equipment. This role involves using specific equipment to produce photographic or computer images for physician interpretation, performing cardiac scanning with SPECT and PET imaging, and conducting patient history taking. The technologist will also calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage, perform quality control checks, maintain and calibrate equipment, and dispose of radioactive materials following guidelines. Additionally, they will explain procedures and safety precautions to patients, develop treatment procedures, and maintain records for departmental accreditation.

Requirements

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology RT(N)
  • Texas State License

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, administer and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies using a variety of radioisotope equipment, under the direction of a physician.
  • Use specific equipment to produce photographic or computer images to be interpreted by the physician.
  • Perform cardiac scanning to check for areas showing signs of abnormality using SPECT and PET imaging.
  • Conduct patient history taking and answer all relevant queries before the procedure.
  • Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received.
  • Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment and cameras.
  • Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment.
  • Dispose of radioactive materials following guidelines.
  • Record and process studies using computer/camera.
  • Explain test procedures and safety precautions to the patients and provide them with assistance during the test procedures.
  • Develop treatment procedures for nuclear medicine treatment programs.
  • Maintain all records and assist with accreditation of the department.
