About The Position

Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing a variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures. Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses under the direction of a physician. Calibrates equipment. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by a physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce an image of the organ. Measures radioactivity using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors. Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of a physician. Follows radiation safety techniques in the use and disposal of radioactive materials.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one-year clinic experience in a direct patient care setting.
  • Requires proficiency at a technical level not requiring constant supervision in nuclear medicine.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to use a computer terminal, fax machine, and copy machine.
  • BLS must be obtained during orientation period.

  • Graduate of an Accredited CNMT Program.
  • CNMT Registry.
  • RT(R) with appropriate training.

Responsibilities

  • Follows departmental guidelines for use of radiopharmaceuticals, including applying radionuclides while maintaining standards of quality care.
  • Operates and maintains quality control for all Imaging equipment and assaying devices.
  • Calibrates cameras and equipment according to departmental protocols.
  • Removes radioactive and waste materials from the exam room to proper storage or disposal locations.
  • Stores radioactive materials in appropriately labeled/shielded containers.
  • Selects proper equipment to complete requested examinations.
  • Operates Nuclear Medicine computers to enhance the value of diagnostic information obtained.
  • Follows departmental protocols when computer processing studies to achieve high-quality images.
  • Uses appropriate choice of filters and slice selection.
  • Utilizes necessary display parameters, image intensity, and labeling techniques.
  • Maintains appropriate records to assure regulatory compliance, including records of radioisotope use, storage, and disposal.
  • Logs patient doses administered.
  • Follows safeguards and protocols.
  • Maintains dose calibration records.
  • Directed by a physician, performs technical imaging procedures utilizing radioisotopes.
  • Provides patient education about the procedure to be performed.
  • Performs procedures in diagnostic/therapeutic use of radioisotopes.
  • Prepares isotopes for patient use.
  • Performs venipuncture as directed.
  • Utilizes ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
  • Completely fills out all required consents and questionnaires.
  • Completes all exams timely in PACS and EMR.
  • Verifies all physician orders match the order in PACS.
  • Verifies all images are in PACS, scans any required documentation, and adds any additional information in the notes section as needed.
