Nuclear Medicine Technologist
About The Position
The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHCS) in Las Vegas, Nevada, is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. This role is part of the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21) and is located at a state-of-the-art facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical, and mental health services. The Radiology Service is equipped with advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. Requirements
- Current ARRT registration in Nuclear Medicine (N) or NMTCB certification
- Current BLS/BCLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years of nuclear medicine technologist experience in a hospital or medical center
- Proficiency with gamma cameras, SPECT systems, dose calibrators, and radiopharmaceutical preparation
- Knowledge of radiation safety, NRC regulations, and radioactive materials handling

- VA or federal healthcare experience preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Prepare, assay, calibrate, and administer radiopharmaceutical doses by injection, inhalation, or ingestion as prescribed, ensuring proper patient identification and adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform a full range of nuclear medicine diagnostic imaging, non-imaging, in-vitro, and therapeutic procedures including gated cardiac, tomographic (SPECT), and quantitative studies.
- Proficiently introduce intravenous catheters; monitor for possible side effects of radiopharmaceuticals and adjunct medications; take immediate corrective action as necessary.
- Perform technical procedures for safe receipt, handling, transport, usage, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials in compliance with NRC, NHPP, and DOT regulations.
- Analyze dosimetry and personal monitoring reports; recommend actions to reduce exposure in accordance with ALARA principles.
- Receive, interview, and prepare patients for procedures; explain studies, answer questions, obtain clinical data, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
- Maintain cross-sectional anatomy knowledge and its application in hybrid imaging including SPECT/CT.
- Perform quality control on gamma cameras, dose calibrators, and ancillary equipment; maintain quality assurance documentation.
- Utilize PACS and nuclear medicine information systems for image archiving, processing, and transmission.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including NRC, FDA, ACR, and Joint Commission standards.
