Requirements

  • High School graduate, or equivalent.
  • Maintain licensure by State of Ohio, Department of Health.
  • Graduate of approved Nuclear Medicine program with the ability to meet and maintain requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or CNMT.
  • Complies with all Service Excellence, Quality, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Must be currently certified in CPR, and be recertified bi-annually.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, physicians, co‑workers and patients.
  • Uses proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift patient from cart, wheelchair, or other transport device onto imaging table/couch.

  • Experience in Nuclear Medicine desired.

Responsibilities

  • Makes recommendations to assist physician with diagnosis.
  • Schedules nuclear medicine tests as needed.
  • Checks patient records for pertinent information as needed.
  • Prepares patient for exam, administers radioactive isotopes and transfers patients to examining table.
  • Scans the patient, and ensures proper settings on gamma camera.
  • Measures the radioactive dosage prescribed for a patient with dose calibrator.
  • Documents accordingly.
  • Sets up machinery for scans and changes collimators.
  • Selects and operates equipment as directed.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Surveys the daily shipment of radioactive material received from the radiopharmacy.
  • Records every radioactive isotope in a dose management system.
  • Performs daily surveys and weekly wipe tests.
  • Assists Lead Technologist in maintaining policy/procedure manual.
  • Responsible for all computer work as part of patient’s exam.
  • Performs all necessary quality control on cameras as suggested by manufacturer.
  • Available for Emergency Call on a rotational basis.
  • Knowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care according to patient’s age.
  • Technologist will most frequently care for adults and geriatric patients; and, on occasion, adolescents, children, infants, and neonates.
  • Identifies problems and communicates appropriately to immediate supervisor, offers solutions as appropriate.
  • Lifts, moves, and transports patients via cart, wheelchair, or other transport device.
  • Positions patient as needed for procedures.
  • Works in the front office/file room as needed.
  • Wears film badges/ring badge and uses time, distance, and shielding to minimize exposure to radiation.
  • Transports patients from patient room, Surgery Center, ESD, and other patient care areas.
  • Returns patient to room or other patient care area.
  • Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends required training.
