About The Position

The Department of Radiology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Nuclear Medicine Manager / TH Medical Radiography Assistant Director. The successful candidate will supervise and perform duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of diagnostic equipment. This role involves ensuring all standards of care are met, adhering to regulatory agency standards, and becoming knowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures. The position also requires preparing radiopharmaceuticals, performing diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures, understanding radiation effects and safety, and assisting in training. The Nuclear Medicine Manager will be responsible for patient care, problem-solving equipment issues, maintaining a courteous disposition, and adhering to all SUNY Downstate and departmental policies. They will also learn and use computerized patient information systems, including RIS and PACS, and must be flexible with scheduling for on-call, holiday, and emergency coverage.

Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB)
  • ARRT Certification

Nice To Haves

  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience or 10-years in Nuclear Medicine is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement and initiative in the utilization of diagnostic equipment.
  • Effectively performs and documents quality control procedures on nuclear medicine and accessory equipment, troubleshoots problems, and communicates failures.
  • Ensures all standards of care are met for the patient population and adheres to standards for all regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission and New York Department of Health.
  • Becomes fully knowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures including quality control.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for administration by injection, ingestion and inhalation methods.
  • Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures at a technical level, including obtaining pertinent clinical and medical history of patients and obtaining follow-up examinations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in the effects of radiation exposure, radiation procedures, radiopharmaceuticals, computer applications and imaging techniques.
  • Is responsible for safety precautions for patients and workers with regards to radiation exposure.
  • Identifies sources of radiation contamination and follows procedures for cleanup and control of radioactive waste.
  • Assists in the training of student technologists and medical students rotating through the department.
  • Deals with emergent situations and provides care based on emergent needs.
  • Is responsible for patient care while performing imaging studies, to include accuracy of patient identification.
  • Problem solves as related to equipment usage/issues.
  • Maintains a courteous and pleasant disposition with patients.
  • Adheres to all SUNY Downstate and departmental policies and procedures, to include principle of behavior.
  • Adheres to time and attendance policies.
  • Performs all other departmental related duties and responsibilities as needed and/or required.
  • Learns and uses computerized patient information systems, including Radiology Information Systems and PACS; exams must be completed immediately in RIS and verified on PACS; burns CDs and DVDs as required and/or necessary.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in terms of scheduling availability as on-call holiday and emergency coverage may be needed and/or required.
