Requirements
- Completion of a Certified Nuclear Medicine program fulfilling necessary clinical hour requirements to graduate from program
- Registered Technologist Nuclear Medicine Technology
- Nuclear Medical Technologist: AZ, upon hire
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Responsibilities
- Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures, utilizing radionuclides to produce high-quality images and data for licensed practitioners.
- Ensure appropriate patient care.
- Recognize conditions essential for successful procedures.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals.
- Operate equipment.
- Adhere to strict radiation safety.
- Operate teleradiology system and equipment including performing procedures in the department, in the operating room, and on a mobile basis.
- Determine test procedures according to purpose of examination.
- Utilize good radiation safety practices for patients, self, and others by use of available radiation protection devices.
- Ensure badges are worn appropriately and readings are available.
- Display a thorough knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and of various isotopes utilized.
- Inject isotopes, if required.
- Update patient examination history file, record unusual conditions/limitations, document examination time, room number, and technique factors.
- Complete examination and billing procedures as required.
- Mark all images with appropriate orientation and position.
- Assure that the patient information is clearly visible.
- Perform visual preventive safety inspections.
- Report misadministration or isotope spills to appropriate personnel.
- Provide appropriate documentation on the PACS system stating pertinent information including reason for exam.
- Include initials.
- Practice good sterile technique when required and utilize universal precautions and other infection control practices as appropriate.
