The successful candidate under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Manager, Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Medical Director, performs duties directly involved in a variety of technical procedures in the application of radionuclides.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma from an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
  • Associate's Degree Nuclear Medicine Technology program or a related health field for all employees hired after August 1, 2016.
  • For new Graduates, a Nuclear Medicine permit issued by NYS Department of Health
  • New York State license in Nuclear Medicine.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Strong communication (both written and oral), problem solving, and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 - 2 years Nuclear Technologist experience.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Operates Nuclear Medicine equipment including Gamma cameras, Thyroid Uptake probe, dose calibrator and Geiger counter.
  • Produces diagnostic images for interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Performs calibrations and Quality Control procedures and maintains proper maintenance of required records.
  • Produces accurate floods on cameras.
  • Reports abnormal calibrations on images.
  • Responsible for preparing and injecting or orally administering radionuclides to patients.
  • Identifies patients and procedures.
  • Maintains dose logs and properly disposes Radioactive waste.
  • Adheres to the competency assessed by authorized user
  • Responsible for Radiation safety, Infection Control and all other safety regulations.
  • Attends annual in-services and document Radiation Safety and Infection Control practiced by the technologist
  • Enters proper exam codes into the Radiology Information System (Carestream ).
  • Arrives and completes exams in a timely manner.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies.
  • Reports any equipment problems or malfunctions to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Instructs and supervises Nuclear Medicine students in clinical practice.
  • Works with the students to perform exams as well as performing individual image evaluation.
