About The Position

Under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Director, prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients of all ages and performs all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using imaging and ancillary equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or graduate of a two (2) year accredited JRCNMT Nuclear Medicine Technology program, BLS certification, ARRT or CNMT certification and Massachusetts State License is required.
  • CT waiver for hybrid imaging systems is required within one year (1) of employment.
  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting, and printing images via PACS.
  • Knowledgeable in afterhours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
  • Knowledgeable in billing/charging examinations and supplies in RIS and completes required documentation in a timely and quality manner.

Responsibilities

  • Performs elution of 99MTc generators and prepares radiopharmaceuticals and ensures compliance with regulations and recommendations by state/federal regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Performs radiopharmacy duties which may include: generator elution and elute quality control; radiopharmaceutical kit preparations and quality control according to departmental protocol and manufacture specifications using aseptic technique.
  • Ascertains correct patient, study and radiopharmaceutical by checking patients ID, requisitions and radiopharmaceutical label prior to radiopharmaceutical administration.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals using aseptic techniques according to department protocol and in compliance with state/federal regulations and accreditation agencies.
  • Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation. Ensures patient safety during and after exams by giving proper pre and post procedural instructions.
  • Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures according to departmental schedule. Performs daily, weekly, quarterly and annual QC procedures on the following equipment: dose calibrators, scintillation well counter and thyroid probe, and scintillation cameras. Identifies, documents and reports sub-optimum results to supervisor, RSO or medical physicist.
  • Maintains required record keeping and documentation for all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Assists in teaching students in both a BS and Certificate granting program in Nuclear Medicine Technology in conjunction with Worcester State College.
  • Recognizes that continuing education is vital to maintaining and advancing the profession; keeps nuclear medicine skills current, demonstrating evidence of continuing education to include department meetings, individualized learning opportunities and related classes.
