About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking Nuclear Instrument Technicians at levels I, II, or III. This role involves performing maintenance, calibration, and testing of safety-related equipment within electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation and control systems. Technicians will work in both normal and radiological areas of the plant, including the reactor containment. The position requires adherence to safety regulations, procedures, and work management processes. Depending on the level, technicians will work under direction or independently, troubleshooting and repairing analog and digital control systems, including microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation. Higher levels may involve leading other technicians, performing component-level repairs, and assisting with plant design changes and modifications. Military service members and veterans with specific ranks are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Nuclear Instrument Technician I: 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Nuclear Instrument Technician II: At least 2 years of experience working in I&C. Successful completion of I&C Development Program or equivalency.
  • Nuclear Instrument Technician III: At least 5 years of experience working in I&C, of which at least 1 year must be nuclear experience. Has successfully completed Step 3 of the I&C Development Program.
  • 1+ years of Nuclear Experience required for all levels.
  • Successful completion of the Instrument and Control Technician qualification test (for I).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of electronic equipment and circuitry.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the general theories of instrumentation and control and their methods of application in nuclear power stations.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot analog and digital instrumentation and control circuits.
  • Demonstrated general familiarity of electrical and mechanical physical/dimensional measurements.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret a range of general diagrams, prints, and written procedural instructions and to perform work using the information.
  • Must be physically able and willing to utilize respirators, SCBA bottles, fall protection or other equipment essential to the requirements of maintaining a Nuclear Power Plant including making containment entries.
  • Must be able to and willing to work at varying elevations, confined quarters and radiological areas of the plant.
  • Must have the physical ability to carry a minimum of 50 pounds tooling, test equipment, and plant equipment.
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge of electronic equipment and circuitry (for II and III).
  • Demonstrated detailed understanding in the theories of instrumentation and control and their methods of application in nuclear power stations (for II and III).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex troubleshooting of analog and digital instrumentation and control circuits (for II and III).
  • Demonstrated detailed comprehension of electrical and mechanical physical/dimensional measurements (for II and III).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret diagrams, prints, vendor technical manuals and detailed written procedural instructions and to perform work using the information (for II and III).
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge of and ability to apply safety regulations, policies, and practices (for II and III).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Instrumentation Technology or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and testing of safety-related equipment associated with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation and control systems.
  • Work in both shop and field environments, including normal and radiological areas of the plant.
  • Maintain and calibrate safety-related equipment.
  • Work on analog and digital control systems, including microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot and correct anomalous operations of indicators, controllers, and instrument loops.
  • Complete documentation associated with assigned job tasks and comply with approved procedures.
  • Comply with and demonstrate a working knowledge of Work Management processes, Equipment Clearances, and Radiological Work Permits.
  • Assist with scheduled work activities such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and calibrations.
  • Use industry-accepted human performance practices to promote error-free performance and coach others.
  • Satisfactorily complete the Nuclear Instrument Technician Training Program and associated on-the-job training and evaluation requirements.
  • Perform circuit board component level repair and calibration (for higher levels).
  • Assist with plant design changes and modifications (for higher levels).
  • Lead other technicians in the field (for Nuclear Instrument Technician III).
