About The Position

North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer’s mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS. The Operations and Business Division is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Nuclear Engineer. The primary responsibilities include evaluating, interpreting, and implementing policies and procedures regarding nuclear material accountability to maintain compliance with DOE requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Physics or Engineering or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of education and experience related to MC&A functions.
  • Experience working with DOE/NNSA and their requirements for Nuclear Material Control and Accountability to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with the Local Area Nuclear Material Accountability System (LANMAS).
  • Familiarity with MC&A measurements, inventories, accounting practices, and reporting of nuclear material data.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills.
  • US citizen
  • At least 18 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NDA measurement system theory and design
  • Knowledge of operation, and ability to trouble shoot MC&A gamma-ray, neutron, and heat-based NDA measurement systems

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, interpret, and implement policies and procedures regarding nuclear material accountability to maintain compliance with DOE requirements.
  • Perform accountability operations involving nuclear materials, sealed sources, tamper-indicating devices, and accounting network computing resources.
  • Interact frequently and independently with LLNL MC&A and programmatic staff, as well as MC&A staff at other NNSA/DOE sites.
  • Coordinate nuclear material measurements with MC&A NDA measurement equipment, identify problems, and plan projects to solve problems.
  • Assist in the performance of research to resolve measurement anomalies and moderately complex technical problems.
  • Analyze and interpret complex data, report results, identify problems, and plan projects to solve problems.
  • Coordinate with a unique team of accountability specialists, fissile material handlers, and computer support personnel.
  • Develop, certify, implement, maintain, and perform training including performing on-the-job (OJT) instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
