About The Position

This position is for an instructor in the Radiological Training for Nuclear Engineers (Article 109 RTNE) program. RTNE instructors develop and deliver initial and continuing radiological training for nuclear engineers at NNS in support of Article 109 qualification. The role also involves preparing and administering retention of knowledge examinations, maintaining administrative training records (both physical and electronic), and implementing continuous improvement initiatives for training operations. RTNE instructors must be proficient in MS Office suite, particularly presentation software, and utilize platforms like Success Factors and CheckBox. They are expected to demonstrate professionalism, leadership, and radiological expertise, foster a positive learning environment, and promote a principles-based approach to radiological controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 5 years of relevant exempt experience with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree.
  • 0 years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, especially presentation software.
  • Experience writing and/or reviewing Naval Nuclear work instructions that contain radiological controls, especially for complex nuclear and/or radiological work.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as an Article 109 RTNE Instructor.
  • Experience or knowledge of adult learning theories.
  • Experience in nuclear training or radiological training.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems.
  • Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors.
  • Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants.
  • Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.
  • Conducts research in areas such as radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses, and performance metrics.
  • Recommends technology options or approaches for system, process, facility, or program improvements.
  • Develop and deliver initial and continuing radiological training for nuclear engineers.
  • Prepare and administer retention of knowledge examinations.
  • Maintain administrative training records in physical and electronic formats.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives for training operations.
